FieldNotes - Release Notes

The Release Notes give a brief summary of FieldNotes development over successive versions, listing new functionality, resolved issues and known problems in each release.

Please check the online FAQ list for reported bugs, solutions and workarounds before reporting new bugs. Suspected bugs should be reported using the relevant form - please also refer to the guidance notes to speed processing.

Release Notes - FieldNotes IMS v1.1

FieldNotes v1.1 is the first update to the software, mainly providing improved map resolution and eliminating reported problems.

What's New in Version 1.1

  • Updated graphics interface - improved map resolution, especially symbols.
  • Extended data-checks on imported datasets.

Issues Resolved:

  • Scale editbox in Map display is now freely editable.
  • 'Created date' field in database records saved when a record is updated.
  • Problems when double-clicking editbox controls in data-entry forms are now resolved.

Known Problems and Limitations:

  • User Preferences ('Options' on the 'Tools' menu) are not accessible.
  • This version has not been tested on Windows 8.

FieldNotes v1.1 is shipped with a preliminary Documentation set, comprising:

  • Installation, Database Setup + 15 Introductory Tutorials;
  • Single-level Help pages;
  • Summary Answers library.

FieldNotes v1.0 is the first version available for general use by wildlife recorders.

What's New in Version 1.0

  • Interface to dynamic online maps (Google API).
  • Coordinate conversion tool.

Issues Resolved

  • Scrolling maps using the OpenGL interface.
  • Grid-reference validation error where the prefix 'N' was marked as invalid. Welcome back Scotland!

Known Problems and Limitations

  • User Preferences ('Options' on the 'Tools' menu) are not accessible.
  • This version has not been tested on Windows 8.
